Introduction to Governors

Mrs Jenny Howell – Chair of Governors

Jenny grew up in South Norfolk, before living in Chester, Peterborough and Essex. She is a qualified teacher and has taught through all phases of primary school. She spent 10 years as an Ofsted inspector, specialising in Early Years and is now an Early Years Adviser for Norfolk County Council. She has children at Thurlton Primary School and Hobart High School. 

Mrs Ali Hambley – Headteacher

Ali Hambley was appointed Consultant Leader in Sept 2015, Acting Headteacher in Feb 2016 and taking up the appointment of Headteacher of Thurlton Primary School in April 2017. Thurlton Primary school joined Clarion Academy Trust in September 2017. 

Mrs Patricia Bell –Trustee of Clarion Academy Trust

Originally from Newcastle upon Tyne, Tricia has lived in Norfolk for 35 years.  She has worked in Further Education in Kent, Suffolk and Norfolk, latterly as Deputy Principal at Easton College.  She has 2 grown up children, one of whom went to all three Loddon Schools.  She has been a Governor of two local primary schools and also Hobart High School before becoming a Trustee of Clarion Academy Trust.  She also does voluntary work with pre-school age children and their families. 

Mr John Betney

John was appointed as a parent governor in June 2019.   He is an Operations Manager at The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and has 15 years’ experience of managing teams and people in Service Delivery.  John has lived in Norfolk all his life, relocating to Thurlton in 2004.  He has two children currently at Thurlton Primary School. 

Miss Karen Davison – Staff Governor

Miss Davison was appointed at Thurlton Primary School in September 2016 and teaches in Hedgehog class with Year R and Year 1 children. She also has the responsibility of being the Designated Safeguarding Lead. Miss Davison has over 11 years teaching experience in EYFS, KS1 and KS2 with her specialism lying in Early Childhood Education. She has obtained different qualifications relating to education including a National Award in SEN and a Masters in Education. She has also completed a NPQML (National Professional Qualification in Middle Leadership). 

Mrs Boo Dickens

Boo is a primary school teacher, now retired. She is originally from Suffolk but has lived in Norton Subcourse since 1992. Boo's own children have been pupils at Thurlton Primary before going on to Hobart High School, and beyond. As a foster carer, Boo has experience of young people who may have additional needs and who may need extra support in school. Boo has confidence that the children she fosters will be nurtured, and well educated, at Thurlton Primary School and Hobart High School.

Mrs Donna Elson - Vice Chair of Governors

Donna currently works as a Commissioning office for Children's Services in Norfolk County Council. Prior to this she has worked in front line and management roles in Children's Service's in Norfolk and Kent, as such she has an extensive knowledge of safeguarding and family support. Donna grew up in Thurlton and attended Thurlton Primary School as a child before moving to Kent. She moved back into the village 2 years ago and has a young son who she hopes will attend Thurlton Primary School in the future. 

Mr David Simington

David is a retired Primary Headteacher and UEA University lecturer of Art and Technology. He has extensive knowledge of Education in Norfolk and Suffolk from Primary through to University and is dedicated to educational standards.  Now a practicing artist designing creative programs for local and regional schools at the UEA.
